Education and culture: Education in Israeli schools takes 15 years. According to the UN, 97% of the Israeli population has the ability to read and write. Since 1953 schools have been divided into five places: normal, religious, orthodox, public and Arabic schools. Israeli pupils start school at the age of three and finish at the age of 18. The greatest representatives of Israeli literature are Nobel Prize laureate Shmuel Yosef Agnon, contemporary writers Etgar Keret, Amos Oz and David Grossman. Israel has been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1973. He won 4 times in the competition and hosted 2 times.

Sports: The most popular sports in Israel are football and basketball. Chess is popular among all age groups. Israel made an Olympic debut in the 1952 Helsinki Summer Olympics. Israel is a member of the European Olympic Committee. Israel's first medal won at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona and has nine medals in total. Israeli athletes are successful in sailing and judo sports.
