Country Fact Sheet: Belarus is an Eastern European country with no access to a sea. The official languages are Belarusian and Russian. Minsk is the capital of the Republic of Belarus, as well as its biggest city. According to 2018 statistics, with a population over 9.4 mln, Belarus is 95th in the world ranking.
Education and culture: General secondary education is carried out by primary, basic and night general-education schools, gymnasiums, high schools, boarding schools, sanatorium boarding schools, and pedagogical educational complexes. High-school and gymnasium classes, as well as separate disciplines, are taught in general secondary education institutions. Belarusian national dresses were created in connection with the climate and were designed referring to the colours of the Belarusian flag. The Belarusian literature was formed in XI-XIII centuries based on religious views. Later, writers such as Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas, Uladzimir Zilka, Zmitrok Biadula, and Maksim Haretski contributed to Belarus literature. Since 2004, Belarus has performed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Famous painter Marc Chagall was born in Belarus.
Sports: After gaining independence in 1994, Belarus debuted at the Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games. Belarusian athletes are always among favourites in biathlon and athletics. Thanks to Victoria Azarenka, tennis has gained interest in the country. Vasil Kiryienka, a cyclist and Maryna Arzamasova, a middle-distance runner, are the sportspeople bringing home gold medals.
'Let's learn values!' sports event was held at School № 164 in connection with Olympic Culture and Education Program. The students first demonstrated their achievements in local and international competitions; later, they participated in different sports activities. Vasif Jafarzadeh, the 5C grade student of the Secondary School № 164, ranked 1st in kickboxing during the IV International Karate Festival held in Astara, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Within OCEP 2019, School № 164 was twinned with Francisk Skorina Gymnasium № 1 in Minsk, Belarus.
